Minister for Energy and Water Management Michael Farrugia visits MelitaTransGas operational office
The Minister for Energy and Water Management, Hon. Dr. Michael Farrugia, visited the Melita TransGas Operational Office in Mriehel where he met the employees of the company responsible for the implementation of the Melita TransGas Pipeline Project of Common Interest, which will connect Malta to Italy and the European gas network.
Dr. Farrugia explained how the pipeline route has been finalized thanks to the studies that are currently ongoing, which studies are being part financed by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility. The finalization of the route also paved way to the submission of the Environmental Impact Assessment to the Environment and Resource Authority in Malta in February 2020.
It was also stated that studies have been conducted to investigate the possibility that the pipeline will not be solely used for transportation of natural gas but also for renewable gases like biomethane and hydrogen.
A new website for the Melita TransGas Pipeline Project was launched during this occasion (link: https://melitatransgas.com.mt/) providing an interactive portal which aims to transmit the information to the public, including technical, administrative and regulatory aspects giving an opportunity for everyone to stay in touch with the company and project’s developments.
