The Maltese Government is committed to ensure that the gas pipeline project is in full respect to the environment – Minister Joe Mizzi

During his visit in Gela, Sicily, Minister for Energy and Water Management Joe Mizzi said that the Maltese Government is fully committed to ensure that the gas pipeline project will be undertaken in full respect to the environment. Minister Mizzi is being accompanied by Permanent Secretary Anthony Gatt.
In Gela, Minister Joe Mizzi held meetings with the mayor and vice-mayor of Gela, where it was highlighted that the visit forms part of the Maltese authorities’ effort to promote collaborative actions between Malta and the Gela municipality.
Minister Mizzi said that Malta and Gela will become increasingly linked from an infrastructural point of view through the electricity interconnector and, in the future, through the gas pipeline project. “This physical link can be catalyst of improve our cultural and social relationships, which, I believe, are beneficial for both Malta and Gela,” the Minister pointed out.
“Hence, within the framework of our collaboration on the gas pipeline project, we can seek to develop opportunities for future collaborative actions at a technical level such as water and energy efficiency and use.”
He recommended the need to keep a direct line of communication between the Ministry and the local council of Gela to ensure that the project planning and implementation takes full consideration of the concerns which people in Gela might have.
